A one-year pre-university programme offering hands-on exposure to architecture, quantity surveying, construction, and environmental design. It equips students with core knowledge in mathematics, English communication, creative and critical thinking, basics of drawing, and introduction to built environment industries, including field trips and real-life simulation exercises.
Many Students Choose Natural & Built Environment Because:
- Encourages creative and analytical thinking applied to real-world built environment issues.
- Provides a clear pathway into architecture and quantity surveying degree programs.
- Combines studio-based learning with field visits, offering practical exposure.
- Emphasizes industry connections, enabling early interaction with professionals.
Some Students Do Not Choose It Because:
- The project-based learning approach is intensive—expect regular drawings, models, and assignments.
- Not a good fit if you're less interested in visual or spatial subjects.
- Elective-heavy curriculum may feel less focused if you prefer specialised streams .
Lifestyle During Study:
- Full-time, campus-based study with intakes typically in February, April, July/August.
- Blend of lectures, tutorials, drawing labs, and outdoor field trips.
- Heavy emphasis on studio work (drawing/model-making) and coursework-based assessments.
- Structured semesters with elective modules like Basic Economics or Spatial Design.
After Graduation:
- Guaranteed entry into architecture or quantity surveying degrees, often with parental accreditation (e.g., LAM for architecture).
- Students are portfolio-ready, having completed studio work and projects.
- Developed academic, digital, and soft skills suitable for higher studies and internships.
What is Hard:
- Time management: balancing drawing, projects, field documentation, and writing.
- Technical skills: mastering technical drawing, spatial representation, CAD basics.
- High creative standards: work is open to critique and requires iterative improvement .
What is Easy:
- Hands-on work: drawing and model-making can be more engaging than theory-heavy subjects.
- Collaborative environment: learning alongside creative peers provides support.
- Integrated content: drawing, English, and thinking skills are woven into every module.
Fun Fact:
“Foundation in Natural & Built Environments often includes field trips and competitions—learn outside the classroom and sharpen your creative edge!”.
This is for you if you like:
- Sketching, model-making, and creating visual layouts
- Exploring how buildings and spaces are planned and constructed
- Combining creative thinking with real-world construction or design skills
- Working both in studios and outdoors, with a mix of theory and practice
