A one-year, full-time pre-university programme that prepares students for undergraduate degrees in areas like interior design, graphic design, fashion, animation, and architecture. You’ll gain strong fundamentals in drawing, colour theory, visual communication, and creative thinking, while also developing key academic and digital skills.
Many Students Choose Design Because:
- Creative exploration: Helps you discover your style in interior, graphic, fashion, or 3D design.
- Hands-on projects: Build a portfolio through drawing, technical work, and digital design classes.
- Pathway to design degrees: Smooth entry into Bachelor’s programmes like Graphic Communication, Fashion, Interior Architecture, Animation, and Multimedia Design.
Some Students Do Not Choose It Because:
- Project-heavy: Requires consistent effort on assignments, portfolio prep, and presentations.
- May feel limiting: Primarily focused on design—not ideal for those unsure about creativity-focused pathways.
Lifestyle During Study:
- Studio & lab-based learning: Classes in drawing, colour, digital design, photography, and illustration.
- Collaborative environment: Work alongside classmates on group tasks and critiques.
- Regular intakes: Offered in January, May/April/August/September, depending on institution.
After Graduation:
- Degree Progression: Direct transition into design-related bachelor's programs. Graduates from places like Equator, Taylor’s, UniKL, INTI, and Swinburne can continue into degrees in graphic, interior, fashion, animation, or architecture.
- Portfolio-ready: Strong foundation of technical skills and creative work to showcase in university applications.
What is Hard:
- Time-intensive: Balancing creative projects, portfolio work, and academic tasks.
- Feedback-heavy: Learning to take critique and revise designs with resilience.
What is Easy:
- Skill development: Learning drawing, color, and visual storytelling in a practical setting.
- Supportive setting: Teachers and peers encourage creativity and growth.
Fun Fact:
The Foundation in Design often includes a Visual Aptitude Test or Portfolio review, especially at Taylor’s, to assess creative potential alongside academic entry.
